What is a Home Birth or Community Birth?

Community Birth is also known as "out of hospital birth".  Community Birth is defined as when a family decides to have an unmedicated birth at home or at a free standing birth center with a Midwife.  Learning to be a support person in this environment is essential.  Understanding the personal environment of the space and learning how to communicate in this setting is imperative.

Attending Community Birth Course

This is a 1 Day interactive course in a supportive role at Community Birth (out of hospital birth).  In this Advanced Doula course, we will spend a full day discussing how to support the expectant family and how to be a collaborative member of the birth team.  This course will cover how to support a laboring mother and family, optimal positions for birth, how to hold space in a birth room, natural pain relief for the unmediated birth, how to support a family in an emergency and transfer and so much more!  This class is designed for anyone interested in Community Birth (Doulas, Birth Assistants, Student Midwives, etc).  Interviews with local Midwives, Students and Doulas will be included in this class.  This course fulfills the Labor Support recommendation for the Birth Assistant Basics Course.
